Early Music Studies

This concerns issues relating to historically-documented music up to the 17th/18th centuries, including the preparation of inventories, making materials available and publishing musical collections and specific repertoires, a study of their social, cultural and geographical contexts (taking a very broad perspective), research into related aesthetic and interpretative questions and the recovery of these repertoires in terms of performance, not forgetting the corresponding musical theory. Its central focus is music known, performed or preserved in the Iberian Peninsula, particularly that related to Portugal, with the aim of integrating a knowledge of it in international musicological consciousness and discourse on early music. It also fosters interdisciplinary training at an advanced level leading to an understanding and treatment of the sources.
